The mission of the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program is to collaborate with partners to design, implement, and evaluate a broad range of public health strategies to reduce the burden of diabetes and improve the quality of life for all persons affected by diabetes in South Dakota.

American Diabetes Alert Day
An estimated 39,300 adult South Dakotans have diagnosed diabetes and an additional 13,100 South Dakotans have diabetes but do not know it.
Tuesday, March 24, 2009 is the 21st annual American Diabetes Alert Day. This day is intended to inform the public about the seriousness of diabetes. We encourage South Dakotans to take the Diabetes Risk Test and find out if they, or their loved ones, are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
